Some Handy Heater Repair Tips I’ve Picked Up

Home Heating System Repair And Maintenance Tips

Depending on the source that heats your home (sources include: forced air, electric heating, boiler, radiant heat, or other mechanisms) you may be able to get the heating repairs done yourself. The maintenance of your heat source is essential if the furnace is to be kept running properly.

For Quick Tips, Check Out This Video!

Air Filters and Duct Leak

According to Ocean Plumbing and Heating, hanging and cleaning the filters should be done every 3-6 months, especially during the winter season, when the heater is in full use. If your heating source has a dirty filter, the heater will work harder to produce the hot air, which, in turn, will cause some of the other parts to wear out quicker. If the filter is clogged, your heater will cease to work entirely.

This is generally an easy repair to do, and can be done by the homeowner or the person who rents the property. While checking or changing the filter, you should also check all the duct work to make sure there are no leaks. Do this with the heater turned on, so that you can feel for leaks. If you prefer, you can call in a professional to check it for you and do any maintenance that is needed.

Blower

If the blower in your furnace runs non-stop, you will need to have it checked. There are two primary things that can cause this problem: (1) the thermostat on the wall or (2) the switch on the unit itself. The first thing to check in this heating repair situation is the fan switch on the thermostat. Make sure it is set to “auto.” If it is set to on, change it and see if the blower stops once the room is heated. Also check the switch on the unit itself to make sure it is set to manufacturer’s specifications.

Temperature

If your furnace is producing insufficient heat, it could either be a fairly straight forward repair, or something you will need to contact a professional about. You need to first make sure that nothing is blocking the air flow, that the thermostat is set properly, and that all of the heating vents are open. If you find that nothing I just mentioned is the cause of the problem, it is highly advised that you call a pro.

Calling the Pros

Heating maintenance is fairly simple to perform and some heating repair issues are also simple. If you do not feel confident in doing the maintenance and repairs yourself, then you are always free to hire a professional.

When it comes to finding someone to service your furnace, you choose either an independent contractor or a heating repair company. Both are qualified to perform both the routine maintenance on your heating unit and to fix anything that may need to be replaced or repaired. The choice really comes down to your budget and peace of mind.

A History of Tattoo in LA and Worldwide

A Brief History of Tattoos

Humans have been decorating their body with tattoos for thousands of years. Sometimes, they are signs of social status, sometimes marks of genealogy, and sometimes simply a permanent mark to commemorate an important time in our life. But how did tattoos get to the point they are in our culture now? It seems like everyone and their grandma is getting a tattoo. Let’s take a look at the brief history of tattoos to see how we got to where we are today with this timeless body art

The Iceman Tattoo

The oldest known tattoo was found on the fossilized body of a 5,200 year old human discovered along the border where Italy and Austria meet. Archaeologist note that the iceman’s tattoos were placed relatively haphazardly along his spine and back in the form of simple dots. They believe that these were medicinal in nature rather than decorative, meant to relieve some sort of bodily pain.

Ancient Egypt

From statues, paintings, and the mummies of ancient Egypt, historians have gathered that tattooing was popular among Egyptian women. They would decorate their body, limbs, and thighs in geometric lines, diamonds, and occasionally natural images. Experts are divided on the purpose of tattoos in ancient Egypt, which were strictly reserved to women. Some believe they were reserved for prostitutes and concubines, while others theorize that tattoos served pregnant women as a sort of charm to protect them during pregnancy and labor.

Ancient Rome and Greece

Oddly enough, tattoos in ancient Rome and Greece were used as signs of ownership. A religious sect might tattoo all of their members in a certain way, or a slave owner would mark his slaves with tattoos in order to claim them as his property, much like cattle are branded. After the introduction of Christianity, however, Emperor Constantine banned tattoos around 300 A.D., as they were seen as a sort of bastardization of a body created in the image and likeness of God.

Europe

European explorers were probably reintroduced to tattoos as body art from the Maori people when they landed in the Polynesian islands in the 1500s, today shops like tattoo Honolulu embody the art forms of so long ago. Body art then became popular among sailors and miners, who used tattoos as a sort of lucky charm to keep them safe in their relatively dangerous professions. From their humble beginnings among these tradesmen, tattoos spread quickly throughout Europe, and were eventually introduced to the Americas in the form we know them now.

Things to do in LA – Relax and Find an Acupuncturist!

The Health Benefits of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of needles to distinct body points that helps people feel healthy and improves bodily function. It promotes natural healing and aids pain and suffering. It has been shown in research that acupuncture can relieve pain and even reduce nausea and vomiting after surgery and chemotherapy.

How Acupuncture Works

Some don’t understand how acupuncture works. Our bodies have energy channels called meridians that flow through the body to nurture and irrigate bodily tissues. A trouble within the flow of these energy channels is similar to a dam that backs up in others.

Meridians can be acted upon by needling acupuncture points. Acupuncture needles loosen the obstructions at the dams and restore the regular flow of the meridians. Therefore, acupuncture treatment helps in balancing the body’s internal organ functions such as digestion, absorption, energy production, and the cycle of energy through the energy channels.

According to Reaves Chiropractic (in River North, Chicago), acupuncture treatment energizes the nervous system to discharge chemicals in the brain, muscles and spinal cord. The enhanced energy and biochemical balance brought by acupuncture leads in arousing the body’s natural healing abilities and in advocating physical and psychological well-being.

Seven Ways Acupuncture Improves Your Well-Being

Better Sleep. Acupuncture benefits people who suffer from insomnia and other sleeping disorders. Instead of taking medications which mostly have negative side effects on other bodily systems, the best way of treating such conditions is the treatment of acupuncture.

Addiction Treatment. Acupuncture also benefits people who are fighting chemical addictions, such as alcohol addiction, smoking addiction, and drug addiction. Acupuncture, combined with traditional treatment options, can help addicts overcome their struggle once and for all.

Whole Body Health. One of the best benefits of acupuncture therapy is that it exerts a holistic method of treatment. Acupuncture takes care of all health problems and disorders. Needling the acupuncture points helps in eliminating all of the possible causes of certain diseases and heals the patient effectively.

Increased Energy, Reduced Anxiety. Some people do not suffer from any disease but frequently encounter a fall in energy levels due to strain and anxiety. These people can benefit a lot from the acupuncture therapy. Acupuncture makes patients feel free from stress and relieved from anxiousness.

Improved Immune System. Acupuncture strengthens the immune system and enhances the body’s blood circulation. Therefore, it helps patients in preventing diseases.

Headache Reduction. The treatment of acupuncture is completely beneficial to people who experience regular headaches and migraines. For some, it is just as effective as medications like ibuprofen.

Want to Move to LA? Here is Why You Should.

Considering Moving to LA?

Are you considering picking up and moving out to Los Angeles? If you are, I highly encourage it. LA is one of the most fascinating cities I’ve ever lived in, and the weather coupled with the people and culture make it a true paradise for those who love to get out and experience the world.

So why do I like it?

First of all, the weather is awesome. Now, I’m not saying LA doesn’t have seasons and it is perfectly temporal all the time, because it isn’t. But the winters are fairly mild, and about 300 days out of the year are comprised of not-too-hot sunshine.

The people are great, too. Tons of people come to LA in search of a dream, and oftentimes you will meet likeminded individuals that will help you in your journey as much as you will end up helping them. In all, I think that this is a great place for younger people to come to, as it is rich with culture and nightlife.

More on all of this later though. For now, time for bed. See You in the next post!
